I'll be updating this page regularly with pictures of the puppies on the album below and details of their development, so check back every week or so!
The first pup arrived at 15.00 on Thursday 4th, followed by a very slow labour producing 6 more by 2.30 Friday morning. We were certain that there was another pup stuck in there, and on the vet's advice we took Leksi in 1st thing Friday. An x-ray confirmed a pup, and a caesarian was necessary to remove it, assuming that the lack of movement meant it was dead. To the vet's delight, it turned out to be a bouncing boy, huge and very strong. Leksi, however, needed a lot of work to get her through the operation, and lost a lot of blood. We hand fed the litter until she could come home Friday evening, but she was very happy to feed the pups herself, and, touch wood, she is recovering fast.
There are four boys and four girls, ranging in weight from 375 - 515 grams, which I reckon is about 13-18 ounces in old money, so she will have a lot of work to do feed them all!

The litter are named after characters from the TV series "Xena, Warrior Princess". Both Leksi and Rubi were threatened with Xena as a name until I was over-ridden, so at least I got my own way this time!
Now at the two-week-plus stage, the pups are all eyes-open and alert. The tottering has become a reasonably accomplished walking, a few realistic barks are appearing, the nails are being clipped ( there's a lot of nails.....) and the first worming has been done. As you can see from the pictures, the first attempt at feeding was more about playing than eating, but good fun for both them and us!
Four weeks old, and the fun has started! Now very mobile, and vocal, the litter have become incredibly inquisitive. It is remarkably difficult to keep up with all eight as they charge off in different directions! They are all very happy to eat solid food, made easier by the rather sharp teeth....
Personalities are beginning to develope, but there really is nothing to choose between most of the pups. Leksi is not interested in playtime, but Rubi gets down with the litter and is very tolerant of the chewing her ears get!
